June Meeting at the John Greenleaf Whittier Birthplace

Hello all NOBO Handweavers!

The June 2013 guild meeting will be held at the John Greenleaf Whittier Birthplace in Haverhill, MA. http://www.johngreenleafwhittier.com/. Please plan to be there by 6:00 PM so we can get an early start.  We’ll be meeting outdoors and sunset that day is 8:25 PM, so the meeting will also wrap up earlier than usual. We will tour the homestead in groups, as it is too small a space for everyone to go in at once.  So, bring a chair, your water, and bug repellant!  Snacks for the evening should be something easy that can be passed around and easily eaten.  Hope you will join us for a tour and a look at the wonderful work our team has done getting the resident loom ship shape and weaving again. Business meeting and show ‘n share as time allows.

Terry A. has kindly written out the directions for those of us who still prefer it that way:

Directions:  The homestead is on Whittier Street (go figure), right off of Rte. 110 (Amesbury Road) in Haverhill.  The address for those using GPS is 305 Whittier Rd. There is good signage so hopefully people won’t miss it.

Off of 495 S take exit 52 and keep to the left towards Merrimac.  The turn for the Whittier Birthplace (homestead) is about 1 mile from the exit.  Almost immediately after getting onto Rte. 110 you will pass a Mobil and a Dunkin Donuts on the right and a low cost gas station on the left (which is across the street from the Mobil). 1/3 of the way there you will pass an ice cream place, Biggart Ice Cream, on the left.  After that you will go up a hill and Whittier St. is on your left as you go down that hill.  At the top of the hill, to the left, there is a large green sign announcing the Whittier Homestead, next left.

The Directions from 495 N are the same, except that you will want to keep to the right as you go down the exit ramp. Immediately after getting off of the ramp you will go under 495.

Note:  Whittier Rd. is a loop that ends at the ice cream place and starts at the Whittier Homestead.

See you there.
